Love this design for a writing desk by Alexander Lotersztain for Derlot Editions that was on display at this year’s Dwell on Design conference.

I have been a fan of the Lipse Chair since first seeing it back in 2002.   Right away I liked the soft curve of the shell, and the aluminum strip combined with a careful attention to grain direction.  I’m not totally in love with all of the available finishes, but the variety is nice and the Walnut is spot on.  A thin upholstered pad is also available if  a softer look and feel is what you’re going for.  I have read some concern over the durability of such a thin profile seat pad, although I have not personally experienced any issues and I have specified these for several restaurant interiors.  In this style of chair you wouldn’t really want anything larger and both pads are easy to replace should either become damaged.

A while back The Selby posted this shoot at the home of Misha Hollenbach and Shauna Toohey, both artists and designers of P.A.M.   As with all the The Selby’s work, I have looked through these pictures so many times and yet am still constantly inspired by them.  I don’t know why I haven’t posted more until now.  This home is one of my favorites.  From the photos, I love the way the different spaces are intertwined with one another, each one literally overflowing with life.   You can clearly see that each space is used thoroughly, every day, as a real home should be.  To see more of this amazing apartment click the link below, and pay a visit to The Selby.

With its natural worn textures, electric accents, and experimental feel, this London flat feels more like a studio space than a home.   The apartment is the result of a collaborative effort between the two artists, and wedding gifts from friends (note the Franco Albini Tre Pezzi armchair, and even the ash and oak floor complete with the carved names of those who helped install it).   Click the link below to see more photos of the interior, and read more about the home here.

I am absolutely in love with the furniture coming out of Truck Furniture.  Founded by Tokuhiko Kise and Hiromi Karatsu in 1997, they design the kind of furniture that somehow breathes life.  With careful attention to materials, design, construction, and presentation, Truck goes to great lengths to produce quality furniture intended to last a long time.   Click below to see more of their amazing work (and photography), and pay their website a visit.  The catalogs are definitely worth a peak. I like the thought behind the Dutch Design Chair, but I have my reservations about its performance.  Launched in June 2011, and made from high-quality FSC-Certified corrugated cardboard it is reported to be extremely sturdy and able to hold up to 440 pounds.   Usually, in our home the potential strength of a thing doesn’t at all determine how well it will survive alongside three small children who’s daily goal is discovering new ways to misuse household objects.  That being the case, I can still very much appreciate when something has been produced responsibly, is environmentally friendly, is inexpensive, and effective at doing more than one job (although this seems a little under typical chair height).  So even though I have some doubts, I do like the Map version of the chair and I wouldn’t mind trying one or two in our kids’ rooms to see how things went.
