If you are looking for some fun projects to do with your children, or help with a specific job you might have already started, pay a visit to Built by Kids. Built by Kids is a wonderful resource for everything DIY as it relates to children. You can browse weekend projects, sort by skill level, or select something for a certain age range. It even gives suggestions for things you can build with your child, or that they can do by them self. I know I am already planning our next weekend project in the very near future. For ideas and inspiration visit the Built by Kids website.

Another great home brought to us by Fantastic Frank. The neutral background of building finishes creates such calming atmosphere, and also helps the accents and décor really stand out (especially in the kids rooms). Know for their attention to detail, the Frank crew went with a headed tile floor in the restroom, along with a heated towel rack – probably a nice set features for the Stockholm winters.
To see more of their work, or information on homes, visit the Fantastic Frank website.

I love the ideals and mindse behind Nirvan Richter’s interior design store, Norrgavel. Having trained as a cabinet maker, the Architect and Designer shows great concern for every aspect of the eco-cycle. His pieces are made from natural materials that are both local and sustainable, and include chairs, armchairs, tables, cupboards, sofas and beds. Because of their efforts, Norrgavel won a Corporate Social Responsibility Award in 2008. These wonderful images are from their recently released catalogue of products, shot onsite at a remote farm in Jämtland. To see more products, or to learn more about Norrgavel, pay their website a visit.

As our children grow we are becoming more aware of the smallness of our apartment. Pretty soon we will have outgrown our home (if we haven’t already). I think that is why I keep finding myself drawn to open and airy spaces like this apartment in Sundbyberg, Sweden. I love the way the view seems to trickle into every room, especially in the kitchen where the pair of windows and a bench beneath provide the perfect spot to sit and sip a morning coffee. The floor plan is kept open by using wall mounted shelving wherever possible, and the combination of light and natural finishes creates a very calming atmosphere. I really like is the spice/small storage shelving built in over the oven. The shoe shelf in the entry is a nice touch as well, again keeping clutter off the floor. Although a perforated or metal wire shelf system would allow dirt/moisture to fall through the shelf and onto the floor where it can be swept away, keeping the shelf and walls clean and dry.

Another amazing Australian home. This one Luke Mortimer, Stylist and Visual Merchandiser of Country Road. Believe it or not, the build only took around 6 months! You can follow the progression on his blog. Nearly all the fixtures and furnishings were acquired second hand, because as it turns out Luke is a gifted second hand sleuth. There is even better news..this amazing home can be (temporarily) yours because Luke is offering his perfectly situated and expertly detailed home as a vacation rental (find rental details here)!

I recently discovered the Established & Sons take on the flip-style clock. I have always loved this style (picture any of the wake-up scenes from the Groundhog’s Day movie), and I always keep the Twemco clocks in mind when looking around a second hand store. The Twemco designs (see below) also seem to have inspired Established & Sons, who have done a great job updating the classic time keeper without losing its vintage flair. I love playful use of fonts, and the red E&S logo is a great touch.
