ORIGINAL TREE SWING

Summer is in full swing, and so should you be!  There is nothing better than an old fashion tree swing, and these are the real thing.  Made from reclaimed elm and natural fiber rope, it is available for around the $46.00 mark.  Although you could also get your hands dirty and make one yourself  for less if you have the tools.  Available both from Oeuf, and directly from The Original Tree Swing in either the original or bench version.

ÖSTERMALM APARTMENT

After some quick searching, Emma Sahlin and Nils Unckel found their dream apartment in Östermalm in Stockholm.  With the help of interior designer  Hannah Bastin, they set to work renovating this turn of the century apartment into a modern home for their family.    Their goal was to create a public and private division, while keeping things open.    They accomplished this using sliding doors and altering ceiling heights.  In the kitchen the achieved an open and airy feeling by removing partition walls, staying away from overhead cabinets,  painting the floor boards white, and using a white tile from counter to ceiling.  The result is a bright, clean space with a slight industrial feel.  I really like the Salt Chairs used in the kitchen (Design Within Reach, $98.00), and the striped pendant light over the table (Kartell).

OVERHEAD LIGHTING

I really like the idea of ceiling mounted lighting.   No plug ins for our children to grab for, no lamps for the little ones to pull over, no chords for people to trip on, and no extra equipment taking up the valuable desktop real estate.  And they look amazing.  Although moving your desk around might mean a little more work, and having to request a price is not a good sign.  These Örsjö PJ ceiling lamps could run between $500-$600 each.
